[Mislio bi čovek: zvezde, za solo harmoniku]
- for accordion solo

Perhaps the most important source of Djordjević’s work altogether is the musical instrument as an object of study. No matter how long she digs, she un- earths new and unexpected treasures, over and over again. In ... würde man denken: Sterne (‘... mislio bi čovek: zvezde’) for solo accordion (2015) she faced a challenge that made this process considerably more difficult: a visceral dislike for the accordion, an instrument whose sound was, to her mind, inseparably associated with the Serbian folk tradition she despises. She tackled the problem by discovering, in her research work, isolated areas lacking any points of contact with this tradition. As a result, here the accordion appears not at its most diverse, but at its most radical. The material of her piece consists of nothing more than two sounds: a high pitch resembling a sine tone, and a low, rumbling cluster. Nor are these sounds meant to form a synthesis and release synergy, as is customary in Djordjević’s ‘crash-and-reboot’ pieces. Instead, the self-imposed limitations pave the way to a new form in which two sonic galaxies exist in parallel, as it were, without knowing of the other’s existence.
